TMKOC’s Munmun Dutta Once Opened Up About Her #MeToo Experience: ‘My Tuition Teacher Had His Hands In My Underpants’
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Munmun Dutta aka Babita once shared her experience of facing sexual harassment, and recalled some of her horrid childhood incidents
A few years ago, the #MeToo movement in India got a boost after several women came out on social media with allegations and their experiences of facing sexual harassment. Back in 2017, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Munmun Dutta had also opened up about her #MeToo experience. She recalled some of her horrid childhood experiences, and shared about facing sexual harassment from her neighbour, older cousins, and tuition teacher.
Munmun Dutta took to her Instagram account in 2017 and penned a lengthy post about the #MeToo movement and the experiences she faced. She wrote, “#MeToo...Yes...#Metoo...Sharing a post like this and joining the global awareness on sexual assaults on women all over the world and showing solidarity to each and every woman who sailed on the same boat , shows the magnitude of the problem. M surprised that some 'good ' men are shocked to see the number of women who have come out and shared their #metoo experiences. NO DON'T BE. This is happening in your own backyard, in your own house, with your own sister, daughter, mother, wife or even your maid ...”
Munmun Dutta further recalled the horrifying experiences she had, and wrote that reliving those memories as a little girl brought tears to her eyes. She wrote about the ‘neighborhood uncle’ who would grope her and then threaten her to not mention it to anyone. She further went on to mention the ‘older cousins’ who would look at her differently than they did their own daughters.
“OR the man who saw me at the hospital when I was born and 13 years later he thought it's appropriate for him to touch my body because I was a growing teenager and my body had changed.... OR my tuition teacher who had his hands in my underpants,” wrote Munmun Dutta. Further recounting other horrific memories from her childhood, she wrote that they get away with these heinous acts because women are too scared to speak up. She ended the post by writing that she isn’t scared anymore, and will rip apart any man who tries anything.
